Kia ora e hoa,
Nga mihi aroha ki a koutou.
As we come to the end of another tough, covid year, it feels as if we are being pushed to extremes that promote division and conflict. Remember, that’s not the Kiwi way and will pass! So, let’s focus on getting through this difficult time.
It’s not easy to walk your truth. The freedom to be, to find your voice and carry your song is a precious thing. It could mean letting go of old stuff, baggage that no longer serves, and opening up to new horizons. There is excitement in that. And hope!
I have always believed the truth walks the margins. When the Waitaha Elders taught me their old lore and histories, they approached everything with humility. That humility allowed them to put ego aside and lifted life above the pursuit of position, power and profit. Although marginalised, these Elders rose above conflict, calmly stepped around obstacles and made room for compassion to move in a good way. They fostered an enduring hope.
Today, those pushed to the edge become stressed and afraid. Often isolated, alone, and far from whanau and friends, they reach for a modern device to keep their waka afloat. If they discover sites on line that lead them to the light where truth resides, they ride a good tide. However, there are sites designed to pull us deep into realms where truth is distorted and abused. Those dark tides add to our fears and destroy hope.
Learning to navigate the shifting tides asks much of us. Not all that’s in print or on the web is true. Much of it is but some is a pinch of truth, cleverly manipulated and peppered with lies.
Walk with an open mind. Help others look to the light and follow trails that offer hope, compassion and peace.
Kia Kaha! Ka kite ano! Ma te Wa!
Journey well!
Arohanui, Barry Brailsford
